The Elviria region of Marbella is recognised as having some of the most beautiful beaches on the entire southern Spanish coast. A lively low-density residential area, it offers a strong mix of amenities and has become extremely popular with the expat community.

Elviria is famed for its tranquil forests of native pine and cork oak and the sand dunes that fringe its beaches. Cabopino port offers moorage to residents and is a lively beachfront with local and internationally run beach bars, chiringuitos and restaurants. The area is home to the Don Carlos Hotel — a long-standing five-star landmark — and the world-renowned Nikki Beach.

Several small commercial areas across Elviria provide convenient local amenities including banks, medical centres and an excellent selection of restaurants, bars and supermarkets. The Elviria hills, including La Mairena and El Soto, deliver panoramic views of the Sierra Nevada, the Mediterranean below, Gibraltar and the African coast on clear days — and the area is surrounded by the Sierra de las Nieves UNESCO biosphere reserve.

Things to do in Elviria

Elviria is a paradise for golf lovers, with many of the Costa del Sol’s best courses within a short drive or walk — Santa María Golf & Country Club, Greenlife, El Soto, Río Real, Santa Clara and Marbella Golf & Country Club. Don Carlos adds a spa, gym, outdoor pool and ten clay courts, while the Hofmann Tennis Academy at La Mairena, the Las Chapas football club and hiking tours into the nearby countryside round out the active offering.

The beaches of Elviria are some of the most beautiful on the coast — enjoyed for late lunches and tranquil walks year-round. In summer, the lively beach-club scene at Nikki Beach contrasts with the relaxed Andalusian chiringuitos dotted along the sand. Elviria’s town square is anchored by a large Opencor supermarket surrounded by excellent restaurants including sushi at Meca, Indian at Saffron and steakhouse fare at the Fondue Lounge — a natural neighbourhood meeting point.

Infraestructure

Elviria is only 15 minutes east of Marbella with direct access to the motorway and the coastal road, putting every area of the Costa del Sol within easy reach. Málaga Airport is 40 minutes away by car, and approximately 15 minutes from Fuengirola where a direct train takes you to the airport in under an hour.

Regular bus routes provide direct connections to either side of the coast and stop conveniently on the main highway by the town’s main square. Cabopino port offers moorage for Elviria residents.

Healthcare

Becoming a resident of Spain or contributing to Social Security entitles you to free public healthcare through the Centros de Salud network. Affordable private health insurance is widely available through Mapfre, Caser and Sanitas.

One of the most prestigious hospitals in the Málaga region — Hospital Costa del Sol — is only 10 minutes away, with many more health care facilities available in nearby Marbella.

Education

Elviria has access to a range of international and local private colleges and state schools. State school admission is based on the pupil’s area of residency.

The English International College and the German-run Hofmann school are located nearby and regarded among the best on the Costa del Sol. Colegio Alborán and Ecos are two well-regarded Spanish private colleges, and Aloha College, Marbella University and Marbella Design Academy add further options across the wider area.
