The Costa del Sol enjoys one of the warmest winters in Europe, with an average daytime temperature from December to February of between 17-18\u00b0C. While the rest of Europe hopes for warmer weather and clearer skies, the Spanish southern coast is known to burst into spring by early March.<\/p>\n<p>Average temperatures between March and May on the Costa del Sol range between 14-23\u00b0C. While the summer months attract much larger numbers of tourists, spring is a much milder, quieter and more relaxed time period to spend in the region, making it arguably the best time to enjoy everything that it has to offer. Here are four simple pleasures to enjoy during spring on the Costa del Sol:<\/p>\n<h3>Lunching al Fresco<\/h3>\n<p>Most of the beach chiringuitos and bars close during the quieter winter months and reopen again between March and May. With infrequent or light showers and mild temperatures during the day, many Spanish families, international locals and tourists start to frequent restaurants dotted along the beach in the springtime. Most chiringuitos will begin to offer a variety of shellfish and start firing up their barbecues to serve fresh &#8217;sardinas al espeto&#8216; (salted and barbecued sardines) and also have enclosed dining areas for the milder evenings.<\/p>\n<h3>Hikes and Beach Strolls<\/h3>\n<p>Long days of sunshine and mild temperatures are ideal for outdoor activities and the Costa del Sol offers an abundance of opportunities to enjoy its varied natural landscape; 300km of beaches, to mountainous terrains with a number of hiking, biking and cycling paths. The South of Spain is known world-wide for its Flamenco music and dance, elaborate religious processions and unique architectural monuments. Remnants of Andalucia&#8217;s long colourful history can be found all along the southern Spanish coast in the form of archeological remains such as rock paintings, Roman ruins, cathedrals and castles. Many of which can be visited during a short <a href=\"\/en\/blog\/day-trips-costa-del-sol\">Day Trip from the Costa del Sol<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The South of Spain is also home to a number of charming white-washed villages that offer a variety of unique little landmarks, restaurants, shops and markets such as Benalmadena Pueblo, Mijas Pueblo, Estepona or Benahavis.<\/p>\n<h3>Golf<\/h3>\n<p>Drawing thousands of enthusiasts of the game all year round, golf courses on the Costa del Sol have some of the finest layouts in continental Europe, characterised by immaculate greens, tropical palms and often spectacular views of the Mediterranean.
